What Claude’s own link does: since 16 September 2026, artifacts are shared with a Share button, and Claude’s Help Center says most artifacts shared with "Anyone with the link" open without a Claude account. Not all of them: Docs open only for people signed in to Claude, dashboards and artifacts that keep their content in Claude’s storage show little until the visitor signs in, and artifacts that connect to other websites cannot be shared that way at all. On Team and Enterprise plans, Anyone with the link only appears if an owner has turned on External sharing. Legacy artifacts, made in a chat before the change, still use Publish on Free, Pro, Max and Ultra, which opens without an account.
When Claude’s link opens cleanly for your reader, use it: it keeps things a copy cannot, like comments, edit access, email invites, and the parts of an artifact that call Claude or your connected apps. When the reader hits a sign-in screen, your plan blocks outside links, or you want a password or a link that expires by itself, a pasted copy here is the shorter path. How sharing Claude artifact to link works

A real example
Imagine Claude built you a hiring scorecard artifact — a styled HTML table with candidate names, interview notes, and a recommendation column — and you want two people to read it before Friday: a colleague who uses Claude and an outside recruiter who does not. Your company is on Claude Team and External sharing is off, so Anyone with the link is greyed out and Claude’s link would only open for the colleague. Open the artifact, copy its code, and paste it here instead. Both of them get a page that just opens. The published page carries a noindex robots directive and is served from dochost.co, a separate origin from the app, so it does not turn up in search results. On the free tier the link expires by itself after 7 days (3 if private) — for a decision that closes on Friday, an expiring link is a feature, not a limitation, and the URL stops resolving without you having to remember to revoke anything. If the notes are sensitive enough that the URL alone should not be enough to read them, password protection is a paid feature; the honest way to think about it is that noindex plus expiry is what you get for free, and a lock on the door is what you pay for.
Questions about Claude artifact to link
Can someone without a Claude account open a Claude artifact link?
Often, yes. Claude’s Help Center says most artifacts shared with Anyone with the link open without a Claude account or sign-in. Docs are the exception (signed-in viewers only), and dashboards or artifacts that keep their content in Claude’s storage show part or all of it only after sign-in. Parts that use Claude or connected apps do not work for signed-out viewers. On Team and Enterprise, Anyone with the link needs an owner to turn on External sharing. When a reader still gets a sign-in screen, paste the artifact’s code here: the page opens in any browser with no sign-in.
Were Claude artifacts really in Google, and how does a page here stay out?
Yes. In late July 2026 it was reported that publicly shared Claude conversations and artifacts were turning up in ordinary Google searches after their links had been posted somewhere crawlers could see. Legacy artifacts published with Publish are still public pages, and a newer artifact shared with Anyone with the link opens for anyone who has the URL. Every page published here carries a noindex robots directive in its page metadata; the only exception is a permanent page on a paid plan whose author deliberately opted it in to search and did not set a password, so free pages are never indexable. Pages are also served from a separate cookieless origin (dochost.co), so a published page never runs inside your account’s session scope.
Can I take an artifact down before it expires?
Yes. Free links expire on their own after 7 days (3 days if published as private), and you can delete a page at any point before that from the dashboard if you published while signed in. Deleting removes the document rather than hiding it, so the URL stops resolving. For anything sensitive the combination worth having is a password — a paid feature — on top of the default expiry: access is gated while the page is live, and the window closes without depending on anyone remembering to clean up.
Does the artifact still look the way Claude rendered it?
For a self-contained artifact, yes — the HTML renders in a sandboxed frame with scripts enabled, so a styled document or an interactive widget behaves the way it did in Claude. Parts that ask Claude questions, use your connected apps or rely on Claude’s artifact storage will not work outside Claude, because they need Claude. Copy the complete document rather than a fragment and the result is what your reader sees.
How do I share an artifact in Claude itself?
Open the artifact, click Share, choose who has access and copy the link. On Pro, Max and Ultra the choices are Only you or Anyone with the link, plus email invites (in beta); on Team and Enterprise you can share with people in your organisation, and Anyone with the link appears only if an owner has turned on External sharing. With Anyone with the link, most artifacts open without a Claude account; Docs, and email invites, need the viewer to sign in. Legacy chat artifacts show Publish (or Share & copy link on Team and Enterprise) instead of Share. Sharing settings cannot be changed in the Claude mobile apps, only on the web or in Claude Desktop. It is the right route whenever the link opens cleanly for your reader.
