Share a Claude artifact with people who do not use Claude
Since 16 September 2026, everyone who opens a shared Claude artifact needs a Claude account. Here is when that is fine and what to do when it is not.
Paste your Claude artifact
Viewers open it without a Claude account.
Short answer: Claude’s own Share link is the right choice when the people you send it to use Claude. For anyone else (a client, a parent, a customer), copy the artifact’s HTML and paste it into dochost: they get a normal web page that opens without any account. Free links last 7 days (3 if private); Pro ($7/mo) makes them permanent.
Claude’s Help Center is explicit: everyone needs a Claude account to open a shared artifact, even with the link. The one exception is a legacy artifact, made in a chat before 16 September 2026, which can still be published to a public page. On Team and Enterprise plans, sharing outside the organisation also depends on an owner turning on External sharing.
What Claude’s sharing does better is everything that keeps the artifact alive: viewers can comment or edit if you allow it, artifacts can call Claude or your connected apps, and you can invite people by email. A pasted copy here is a snapshot of the HTML. Parts that use Claude, connectors or Claude’s storage will not work outside Claude.
Moving an artifact to a public link
- 1.
In Claude, open the artifact and copy its code (or download it as an
.htmlfile). - 2.
Paste the code or drop the file in the box above. Inline CSS and JavaScript run as written.
- 3.
Send the link. Anyone can open it in a browser, no sign-in.
A real example
A freelance designer asks Claude for an interactive budget calculator to show a client: sliders, a running total and a chart, all in one artifact. She clicks Share, chooses Anyone with the link and sends it. The client, who has never used Claude, gets a sign-in screen instead of a calculator.
Pasting the artifact’s code here gives the client a page that just opens, on a phone or a laptop, with the sliders still working because the JavaScript runs. The page is not indexed by search engines, and if it needs to last beyond the week a paid plan makes it permanent.
Where it would go the other way: if the calculator asked Claude to explain each line item, that part needs Claude and only works inside Claude’s own sharing, for viewers with an account.
dochost vs Claude’s Share link, honestly
Claude’s column was checked against the Claude Help Center on 3 November 2026.
| dochost | Claude Share | |
|---|---|---|
| Viewer needs an account | No | Yes, a Claude account (except legacy published chat artifacts) |
| Steps to share | Copy the code, paste, send | Click Share, pick who has access, copy the link |
| Features that call Claude or connectors | No; the page is a static copy | Yes, using each viewer’s own access |
| Comments, edit access, email invites | No | Yes (email invites in beta) |
| Team and Enterprise outside sharing | Not tied to your Claude plan | Only if an owner turns on External sharing |
| Link lifetime | 7 days free; permanent on Pro ($7/mo) | Until you stop sharing |
Keep Claude’s Share link for colleagues and anyone with a Claude account, and for artifacts that use Claude itself. Use dochost when the reader does not have Claude and should not need it.
Questions about Claude artifact sharing alternative
Can someone without a Claude account open my artifact?
Not through a Share link. Claude’s Help Center says everyone needs a Claude account to open a shared artifact, even with the link. The exception is a legacy artifact made in a chat before 16 September 2026 and published with the Publish button, which anyone can view.
Will my artifact still work as a dochost page?
Anything that runs in the browser will: layout, inline CSS, JavaScript, charts, forms that do not post anywhere. Features that ask Claude questions, use connected apps or rely on Claude’s artifact storage will not, because they need Claude.
Is a pasted artifact page private?
Pages here are not indexed by search engines unless a paid page is deliberately opted in. Publish as private to keep it unlisted, or add a password on a paid plan. Anyone you send the link to can open it, so treat it like any shared link.
Why not just use Claude’s sharing?
Use it whenever your viewers have Claude: it keeps comments, edit access and live Claude features that a pasted copy loses. dochost is for the reader on the other side of that account wall.
Keep your links forever
Free public pages initially last 7 days; private pages last 3 days. Paid plans support permanent links; trial expiry rules differ.
