Markdown to Word converter

Paste Markdown, download a .docx — with real Word heading styles, so the navigation pane and table of contents actually work.

Real Word heading styles, tables and lists — built in your browser.

Most ways of getting Markdown into Word produce something that only looks right. Paste the rendered output and the headings arrive as large bold text; Word does not know they are headings, so the navigation pane stays empty, Insert → Table of Contents finds nothing, and anyone who applies the company template watches the formatting come apart. This converter writes a genuine .docx in which a # becomes a paragraph styled Heading 1 — the same style Word itself applies — along with real tables, real bullets and numbering, and hyperlinks that keep their URLs. The file is assembled in your browser and never uploaded.

How Markdown to Word works

  1. 1. Paste your Markdown on the left. The document is rebuilt as you type.
  2. 2. The right pane previews what the Word file will contain, and the summary line under it counts the headings, paragraphs and tables.
  3. 3. Click `.docx` to download, then open it in Word, Google Docs, or Pages.

A real example

A developer has written a 12-page technical spec in Markdown, and the client will only review documents in Word with tracked changes. The fast route — render the Markdown, select all, paste into Word — puts twenty section titles in as bold 16pt text. The client opens the navigation pane to jump between sections and finds it empty, then asks for a table of contents, which Word cannot generate because there are no headings to collect. Converting here instead produces a .docx where each ## is a real Heading 2: the navigation pane fills in, Insert → Table of Contents builds the list in one click, and the requirements table arrives as a Word table with a shaded header row rather than tab-separated text. The client turns on tracked changes and starts commenting, which was the whole point.
