Netlify Drop vs GitHub Pages vs Tiiny Host vs dochost: Where to Put One HTML Page

Netlify Drop vs GitHub Pages vs Tiiny Host vs dochost: signup, time to a live link, pasting ChatGPT HTML, Markdown, link expiry, custom domains, price.

Short answer: if you have a full site you plan to keep, use Netlify Drop (free hosting and custom domains; claim the project and check its visibility) or GitHub Pages (free and permanent, but you need a GitHub account and a public repo). If you have one HTML or Markdown page, for example something ChatGPT or Claude just wrote, and someone needs to open it today, dochost gets you a link with no account: paste the code and publish. Free public links initially last 7 days; private (link-only) links last 3 days. Tiiny Host is in between: a simple uploader that keeps one free project online as long as you log in every three months.

All four will put HTML on the internet. They differ in how much you have to set up first, and what happens to the link next month.

dochost: paste, publish, send the link

dochost treats a page as something to share, not a site to deploy. Paste HTML or Markdown (or upload a .html / .md file), check the preview, click publish, and you get a short link. No signup, no email check, no build step. Inline CSS and JavaScript run as written, so interactive quizzes and small dashboards behave like they did on your machine.

If the HTML came from an assistant, there are shorter paths: a Chrome extension adds a publish button inside ChatGPT and Claude, and the MCP server lets ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor publish the page themselves and hand back the link. For a file already on disk, use the HTML file to link converter. For markup on your clipboard, use the HTML link generator.

Where it's weaker: free links expire. Public pages last 7 days and private (link-only) pages last 3 days, with or without an account. You can extend a single page from $2.99, or Pro makes every link permanent and adds custom slugs, passwords and branding removal. Your own domain is on Max. It's also one page per link: a relative path to a file you didn't upload won't resolve, and the free tier caps a page at 1 MB. If you have a multi-file site, one of the other three is the right tool.

Netlify Drop: the quickest way onto real hosting

Go to app.netlify.com/drop and drag in a folder, a zip or a single index.html. You get a live netlify.app URL in seconds. Behind the drop zone is a full hosting platform, which is why Drop comes up first in so many AI answers.

Where it's better: claiming keeps the project attached to your account. Check visibility before sharing: credit-based teams with private-by-default enabled must make it public separately; legacy plans make claimed projects public unless protected. See Netlify's Drop quickstart. You can connect a custom domain with SSL on the free plan, re-drop an updated folder to redeploy, and later move to Git-based deploys without switching hosts. If you're logged in, it can even detect a framework and run the build for you.

Where it's weaker for a quick share: a drop made without signing in is temporary. The Drop quickstart says an unclaimed project sits behind a temporary password until you claim it. There's no box to paste code into, so ChatGPT output has to become a file first. Netlify's pricing page lists a 300-credit monthly limit on Free (a production deploy costs 15 credits, bandwidth 20 credits per GB). Shared-password protection needs the Pro plan.

Tiiny Host: a simple uploader with an account attached

Tiiny Host is built for people who don't want to touch a developer tool. Drop a single file or a zip, pick a tiiny.site subdomain, and launch.

Where it's better: the free plan has no expiry date. One project stays online indefinitely, as long as you log in at least once every three months. It also accepts PDFs and many document formats, not just HTML, and it has an API and an MCP server for agents.

Where it's weaker: Tiiny Host's pricing page lists tight free limits: 1 active project, 3 MB uploads (0.5 MB for PDFs), 5,000 visits and 5 GB of bandwidth a month, and a Tiiny Host banner on your page. Custom domains and password protection start on the Solo plan. Anonymous email-only uploads through the API expire after an hour, so a link you plan to keep means creating an account.

If it's only Tiiny Host against Netlify Drop for a single file, the head-to-head is in Tiiny.host vs Netlify Drop.

GitHub Pages: free and permanent, if you're fine with Git

GitHub Pages serves HTML, CSS and JavaScript straight from a repository, optionally builds it with Jekyll (so Markdown works), and publishes at username.github.io. It's free, it doesn't expire, and it supports custom domains.

Where it's better: it's the most durable free option for something you'll maintain for years, such as a portfolio, project docs or a course site. You get version history built in.

Where it's weaker for a one-off share: you need a GitHub account, a repository and a publishing source configured. On GitHub Free the repository must be public, so your source is public too. Changes can take up to 10 minutes to go live. Private sites need GitHub Enterprise Cloud. GitHub's terms also rule out using Pages to run an online business, e-commerce or SaaS, and GitHub's Pages limits cap the published site at 1 GB. The 100 GB monthly bandwidth and 10 builds per hour are soft limits; the build-rate limit excludes custom GitHub Actions workflows.

Which should you pick?

  • A teacher sharing an AI-made quiz with a class this week: dochost. Paste the HTML ChatGPT gave you and send the link. Students don't need accounts, and the quiz's JavaScript runs. A free public page initially lasts 7 days; a private (link-only) page lasts 3 days. Extend the page if the class needs longer. See sharing an AI quiz with students.
  • A quick one-off share ("can you look at this?"): dochost. Nobody has to sign up, and the link expires by itself, which for a draft is a feature.
  • A client mockup that has to look clean: dochost Pro (no branding, password, permanent) or Netlify Drop with an account. Skip Tiiny's free tier: the banner shows on the page.
  • A permanent portfolio or personal site: GitHub Pages if you're comfortable with Git, Netlify Drop if you'd rather drag a folder. Both are free with a custom domain.
  • A multi-page site with CSS, images and scripts in separate files: Netlify Drop. Drop the folder and you're done.
  • One small page that should stay up for free, with no developer tools: Tiiny Host, as long as you're fine with the banner and logging in every few months.
  • Markdown notes or a README as a readable page: dochost to share it now, or GitHub Pages if it lives in a repo already. See Markdown to HTML.
  • An AI agent publishing pages for you: the dochost MCP server or publish API (no API key or account needed). Netlify and Tiiny Host both offer agent paths too, with an account.

FAQ

Do I need an account to use Netlify Drop? You can try without signing in, then claim the temporary deploy by logging in or signing up. Claiming does not guarantee public access: check project visibility, including private-by-default settings on credit-based teams. See Netlify's quickstart.

Is Tiiny Host free forever? The free plan has no expiry date for one project, as long as you log in at least once every three months. It's limited to 3 MB uploads and 5,000 visits a month, and shows a Tiiny Host banner.

Does GitHub Pages require a public repository? On GitHub Free, yes. A paid GitHub plan lets you publish Pages from a private repository, but the site itself is still public unless your organization uses GitHub Enterprise Cloud.

What's the fastest way to share HTML that ChatGPT generated? Paste it into a tool that takes HTML directly. On dochost you paste the code and click publish, with no file, folder or account needed. With the Chrome extension, you can publish from inside the ChatGPT conversation.

Which option gives a permanent link for free? GitHub Pages and a claimed Netlify Drop site offer free hosting without a fixed expiry; check Netlify visibility before sharing. Tiiny Host's free link is permanent while your account stays active. dochost free public links initially expire after 7 days and private (link-only) links after 3 days; Pro supports permanent links.

Can I use my own domain for free? Yes on GitHub Pages and Netlify. Tiiny Host needs the Solo plan, and dochost needs Max (Pro gets a yourname.dochost.co subdomain).

Will JavaScript in my page work? Yes on all four. Inline scripts run on dochost, and the other three serve your files as static sites.

Bottom line: Netlify Drop and GitHub Pages are hosting, built for sites you'll keep. Tiiny Host is a friendly uploader with an account attached. dochost is for the page you need someone to see today: paste it, publish, and send the link.
