Notion already supports Markdown — why do I need this?

For typing, it does: ## plus a space converts to a heading as you go. Bulk pasting is a different code path, and a large plain-text paste keeps much of the syntax literal. Tables never convert on paste at all. Handing Notion rich text instead sidesteps the inconsistency entirely, because rich text is the format it imports from reliably.

Do checkboxes and to-do lists come across?

Task list items (- [ ] and - [x]) become Notion to-do blocks with working checkboxes, and checked items arrive checked. That is usually the piece people most want to keep, since re-ticking a long checklist by hand is exactly the tedium they were avoiding.

What about code blocks and their language?

A fenced code block becomes a Notion code block. The language tag does not always survive the clipboard, so if you had `ts you may need to pick the language from Notion’s dropdown once — the code itself, including indentation, is intact.

Is this different from Notion’s Import?

Yes, and they suit different jobs. Notion’s File → Import takes .md files and creates a new page per file, which is right for migrating a folder. This is for the far more common case of moving one document into a page that already exists — paste into place, no new page, no upload.

Can I get a shareable page out of this instead?

Yes. Publish hosts the same content at its own URL, which is useful when the person you are sending it to has no Notion access. Free links last seven days; paid plans keep them permanently.

Notion does understand Markdown, which is exactly why the failures are confusing. Type ## followed by a space and it converts as you type; paste a whole document of Markdown and large parts of it arrive as literal characters instead, because a bulk paste of plain text is not run through the same shortcut handling. Tables are the clearest casualty — a pipe table pastes as rows of text with pipes in them, never as a Notion table. The reliable path is to hand Notion formatted content instead of Markdown source: it reads the clipboard’s rich-text flavour and builds its own blocks from it. That is what this page does. There is nothing to connect and no integration to authorise.

How to paste Markdown into Notion

A real example

Pasting the file’s contents straight into a Notion page gives a wall of text where the section titles still show their hashes and the ownership table is five lines of pipes — readable only if you already know Markdown, and impossible to sort or filter. Running it through here first means the paste produces real blocks: the sections become heading blocks that show up in the page outline and can be collapsed, the checklist becomes to-do blocks with tickable boxes, and the ownership table becomes a Notion table whose columns can be reordered. The person doing the migration spends their time checking content instead of re-typing structure.
