Open and read .md files on Windows — no app to install

Windows has no built-in Markdown viewer. Paste or upload your .md file and get a clean, rendered page you can read and share in seconds.

Upload your .md file, get a rendered link

No Windows app to install. Works in Edge, Chrome, and any browser.

Double-click a .md file on Windows and it opens in Notepad as raw text — hashes, asterisks, backticks, and pipe tables, none of it formatted. Windows ships no Markdown viewer, so the usual advice is to install a desktop app like a Markdown editor or a Store viewer. That works if you have admin rights and read .md files often, but it is heavy for a one-off file someone just sent you.

dochost renders Markdown in the browser you already have. Open the .md in Notepad, copy the text, paste it into dochost — or upload the file directly — and you get a clean rendered URL. Headings, code blocks, and tables format correctly, and the link opens on any Windows machine (or phone) without installing anything.

Three steps to read a .md file on Windows

  1. 1. Open the .md file in Notepad (or any editor), select all, and copy — or just grab the file itself.
  2. 2. Paste the Markdown into the dochost editor, or upload the .md file directly.
  3. 3. Click Publish, then open the rendered link in any browser or send it to anyone who needs to read it.

A real example

Priya runs operations at a small manufacturing firm. A contractor emailed her a README.md with the setup steps for a new inventory script. She double-clicked it; Windows opened it in Notepad as one long block of unformatted text — numbered steps run together, code commands indistinguishable from prose, and a configuration table rendered as rows of pipe characters.

Her work laptop is locked down: installing a Markdown app from the Microsoft Store needs an IT request she did not want to file for one file. Instead she opened the README in Notepad, pressed Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C, and pasted the whole thing into dochost. She clicked Publish and got a rendered URL in about two seconds — the steps were a clean numbered list, the commands sat in highlighted code blocks, and the config table was a proper grid.

Priya read the rendered page, then forwarded the same link to two colleagues — one on an older Windows 10 desktop, one on a Mac — so everyone followed the identical formatted instructions without anyone installing a viewer.
